"OK Google" hot word detection plain doesn't work. Why it's like that, I have no idea. I shouldn't have to take my eyes off the road to ask the assistant a question that I would be able to ask outside of Android auto. Also, I can't swipe to change music, I have to look off the road yet again and push a skip button that isn't even that big. Not a good car mode.

It stops hands free voice interaction. I'm sure it's not meant to. It used to work a long time ago for me, maybe was inbuilt into Android, but no longer. I want notificatiins of new messages, responsive voice interaction so I know where I'm at, read and reply style functions. It worked better on Windows Phone 8 with Cortana (I'm serious). Now, "Hey Google" results in paused music and... Nothing. I try to give an instruction... Nothing. Outside app, it works OK, but the app totally blocks it.

The app seems to be getting worse. I'm using a Samsung Note 10. The maps keep freezing, the voice is breaking up and skipping words making navigation impossible. I have changed the cable a number of times but the problem continues. I use this everyday in my job. The only solution I can see if my Apple phone and use Apple Car Play.

works for me on my UMIDIGI F2 phone. scary to read other people's reviews with their problems with this app. oh well. anyways was previously happily using Drivemode as my preferred car app but my whatsapp calls stopped going to the car speakers. and so then came back to Android Auto and my whatsapp calls were back on my car speakers. and my preferred music app, Musicolet, works great with Android Auto. The simple gaudy interface of this app is UGLY -- but so far this app is working for me.

This app is stupid, pointless and possibly actively dangerous. It disables ALL audio, by activating Do Not Disturb, thus killing media playback, any hands-free phone function and, particularly pointlessly, audio instructions for satellite navigation. This behaviour does not appear to be configurable, either from the app itself or from the DND settings. If you turn DND off manually (which you have to do every time the app launches), it will immediately turn it back on again, forcing you to turn it off for a second time and hope it sticks. Whoever passed this for release must have been literally asleep at the wheel.

I'm really considering buying a holder for my cell phone and going back to the way I used to use my navigation. However, I won't go back to a navigational device. Everytime I hook my phone up to AA, it's a 50% chance that my phone will hook up too. Then when the phone does work (after taking the cable out a few times), "recent calls" will not. I have contacts as an approved permission, but that goes out the window when I take the cable out.
