It's pretty sad when the AppleTV Kids Youtube app is better than the one for Google's TV platform. The Apple TV app adds parent sign in, so you can customize which channels and vidoes appear in the selection screen. With the launch of the new GoogleTV platform, I hope this app is updated.

Like everyone else says. I CAN NOT block videos or sign into my account control what my child watches. I pay for youtube premium to block ads and can't even use it with this app. Please explain to me what is the point of this app?

This app is NOT equivalent to the YouTube Kids phone/tablet apps. Google seems to think you should buy your kid a personal electronic device if you want to manage their media consumption. If that doesn't align with your parenting philosophy, Google has decided YouTube isn't for you. I specifically bought the new Google Chromecast w/ Google TV in order to have better parental control over their Youtube consumption via the YouTube Kids app. It seems I have wasted $50, because I cannot link my child's managed account to this app -- it just offers a boilerplate, unpersonalized user experience. You can't subscribe to channels or block channels. It will simply display whatever YouTube thinks a generic kid of your childs' age should watch. Of course, your kids *can* always stream managed content from the YTK app on a personal electronic device, so maybe you should just buy them one of those? That's what it comes down to: Google seems to think that every kid should have a tablet in order for a parent to be able to control what they watch on YouTube. And when it comes to raising my own kids, I couldn't disagree more. At their young ages, I want their media consumption to be in a family space where I can keep an eye on it and discuss it with them. Another problem: Even if you and your family normally enjoy YouTube ad free because you pay $15/month for a YouTube premium family subscription, Google will still be pushing ads to your children, because -- again -- this app cannot be linked to an account. Ultimately, I'm deleting this app and will let my six-year-old return to watching YouTube using the regular app and my unrestricted adult account. The Chromecast will probably go back to Google. Maybe I'll try again when they get serious about making YouTube safe and enjoyable for kids who don't have tablets or phones.

The aesthetics of this app are nice but this version needs better parental controls. Google Family Link is not Android TV compatible so restrictions like approved content only for recommendations need to be implemented into this version of the app itself. It's pretty much useless without it for any parents who want to control what content their kids see.

This is a very different app from the "Youtube Kids" app for android PHONES. This one is lacking very important features such as the ability to create kids profiles, as well as the ability to hand-pick content that your child is able to watch (Approved Content Only). Pretty inappropriate stuff shows up on this app, and requires close supervision by an adult.
