Installation Instructions

This article outlines two straightforward methods for installing SMS Backup & Restore on PC Windows and Mac.

Using BlueStacks

  1. Download the APK/XAPK file from this page.
  2. Install BlueStacks by visiting http://bluestacks.com.
  3. Open the APK/XAPK file by double-clicking it. This action will launch BlueStacks and begin the application's installation. If the APK file does not automatically open with BlueStacks, right-click on it and select 'Open with...', then navigate to BlueStacks. Fake version of another app by the same name. This thing is definitely an imposter. Beyond that if it actually worked (it doesn't), it would be the most confusing app you have ever used and seemed to be designed by/for toddlers? Icons without explanation are the first thing you see, after that you can get cryptic "please wait" messages or super quick "complete" messages that don't instill confidence that anything at all has happened with your important data. Didn't trust it, thankfully found the real app with the same name. Nice try.

Terrible app. I just lost several important text messages

It did the job and transferred all of my texts, images, numbers and other files over. But I ended having to remove it because of this annoying spam that app had constantly popping up when I was not using the app and while I was using other features on my phone.

Can't backup as I don't know how anymore, not like the old application. One Cloud n dropbox will not allow me to reset password to sign in.

- If you intend to do a factory reset on the phone, please make sure you save/email a copy of the backup outside the phone before doing it.
- On Android 4.4+ devices, if you have performed the Restore and the messages don't appear in your messaging app then:
- Open your messaging app and Disable SMS from Settings.
- Exit the app
- Open the app again and Enable SMS from Settings.
