The phone app still shows message symbol even after message is deleted. Can't tell if missed calls, no dot anymore. Some calls don't ring. Hit or miss if can screen call. Allows blocked calls to still call. Verizon tried to help reset so would not loose numbers but reset did not work. I have Verizon but i feel like Google is taking over apps. I had Verizon phone app and now Google is in control over it but I don't recall ever giving permission or switching.

The incoming call spontaneously does not work-- While the phone rings, I cannot see who is calling, nor see how to pickup, or ignore the call or anything else you would expect from an incoming call. It is inconsistent. Sometimes the caller name renders, sometimes all white, sometimes a frozen image. Sometimes it works properly. I would say this is a showstopping bug, and needs to be resolved. I've restarted and cleared cache/data to no avail. I am on the latest Android available on a Pixel 6XL

I could not set up the phone to answer incoming calls, which was very frustrating. I followed all the recommendations below before I left my initial 1 star review with no effect. A message briefly flashed about the drive app being on after a few swipes down when a trial call was made. My problem with the phone is the way that messages are conveyed quickly and are hard to retrieve. The drive app was accidentally set and prevented the phone app (and many others) from working.

On my Pixel 7, I have as much failure as success with the phone App. Calls often don't ring through to me... or ring once and disappear, messages arrive days late, the App insists on choosing horrible cell service instead of strong Wi-Fi, etc. It's the worst cell phone experience I've had. I gave two stars instead of one because I can call out most of the time, and that's rather useful.

Nearby search is not working. Search results don't come up. When I search in the phone app only contacts show up, when searching places no results show up. I have location services turned on. I tried clearing cache which didn't help. Typing the city in phone search will add results to search. So it's something with location services not working. Tried rebooting. This has happened on multiple Pixel phones. Not a hardware issue. This is happening to other Pixel Users as well.

trying to figure out a way to have custom ringtones. not as easy as on the Galaxy phones. (This issue was resolved but since I can't put a new rating, I'll continue from here). Ever since the most recent update, call screening has disappeared. I've followed instructions of clearing cache and memory, restarting, closing the app, etc. Nothing has worked which is disappointing because the screening feature was the best reason to own a Pixel.

About this app

Google’s official phone calling app is now available to download for the first time. Phone helps you easily connect with family and friends, block spam callers, and know who’s calling before you answer – all with a simple, intuitive design.

Powerful spam protection
See warnings about suspicious callers that help you avoid unwanted calls from spammers, telemarketers and scammers. Block numbers to prevent them from calling you again.

Know who’s calling you
Google’s extensive caller ID coverage lets you know the business that’s calling so that you can answer with confidence.

No more waiting on hold 1, 5
Hold for Me lets you go back to your day. If a business puts you on hold, Google Assistant can wait on the line for you and let you know when someone is ready to talk.

Screen unknown callers 1, 2
Call Screen answers unknown callers, filters out detected spammers without interrupting you, and helps you learn more about callers you don’t recognize before you pick up.

Visual voicemail 1, 3
Check your messages without needing to call your voicemail – view and play them in any order, read transcriptions, and delete or save them right from the app.

Call recording 1
Record your phone calls to capture important information for reference later. Everyone hears a disclosure when the recording starts so they’re aware, and recordings are saved on your phone.

Intuitive design
Our simple, lightweight design keeps your favorite people just a tap away. Plus, switch to dark mode to save battery and reduce eye strain at night.

Emergency support 1, 4
See your current location when you make an emergency call, and share information about the assistance you require, along with your location, to the emergency operator without speaking.

Phone app is available on most Android devices running Android™ 9.0 and above.

Also available for Wear OS.

1Available only on some devices that have Phone pre-installed.
2Manual screening is not available in all languages or countries. For more information, see g.co/help/callscreen. Automatic screening is available in the US only, English only. Call Screen may not detect all spam calls.
3Transcription is available in the US only, English only.
4Available in Australia, United Kingdom and the US only, English only.
5Available in the US only, English only. Pixel 2+ devices only. Toll-free numbers only. May not detect every on-hold scenario.

New features

With our latest update to Call Screen on Pixel devices in the US, the Google Assistant now helps you automatically screen unknown callers and filter out detected robocalls before your phone ever rings. And when it’s not a robocall, your phone rings a few moments later with helpful context about who is calling and why.
