About this app

BRIEF HISTORY OF KENYAN DIASPORA COMMUNITY IN SAUDI ARABIA (KDCSA Jaliat).
The Second Secretary of our Embassy Mr. Ali M. Mambo invited a few Kenyans to a meeting at his residence in Riyadh, to brainstorm an idea to find away to bring the Kenyan Community in the Kingdom together. About six Kenyans attended the first meeting which was on Thursday 27th Sept. 2012 with a few invited guests not able to make it including the Deputy Ambassador Mr. Swaleh Mwachidagaya.

The meeting came up with the following few resolutions:

To make Kenyans in the Kingdom aware of the work the Embassy of the Republic of Kenya in Riyadh is doing to help get Kenyans back home especially the area of our fellow Kenyan Female Domestic Helpers.

Portraying a better Kenyan Community image in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as the image of Kenyans in the big cities of the Kingdom have been spoiled in recent years by none others but few Kenyans themselves.

To form an organization which will give a helping hand in assistance to our fellow Kenyan Sisters (priority given to the Domestic Helpers) here in the Kingdom who are mistreated or abused.

The organization will be under the umbrella of the Republic of Kenya Embassy (as you may be aware that no foreigners can form an organization in the Kingdom - for this reason we are not registered).

An Interim Committee was given the task of spreading the idea to the Kenyan Community at large, first in Riyadh, and at a later stage Kingdom-wide, as we are based in the Capital and since KDCSA could enjoy the protection of our Embassy.

The second meeting was on Thursday the 11th October 2012, and the third was on Thursday the 1st November 2012. Both these meetings took place at the Embassy premises. In the first official meeting, H.E. the Ambassador Mr. Mamoud Saleh and almost the entire Embassy Officials attended. The aim of both these meetings was meant to introduce the idea and get feedback from Kenyans to see us take off. In the second meeting we came up with the idea of the putting KDCSA in the Internet via Facebook, which we felt had, and continues to have, an impact; and good results kept showing.

KDCSA since it was formed on 11th October 2012, has done the following based on its capabilities:

Oct 17th KDCSA was informed that 5 Kenyan ladies are locked up somewhere in Riyadh by a Saudi Argent in his office. A KDCSA & Embassy Officials managed to get the agent's mobile no and arranged to pay him a visit. The visit was fruitful, they managed to get 3 out of the agent's office and sent them home. As for the other 2 ladies, one opted to go back to her Kafeel, the second preferred to look for a job.

Oct 15th, Grace had a case with her Kafeel, she was ill advised by a fellow Kenyan to run away from her Kafeel to go to the Embassy. KDCSA & Embassy Official handled this case by talking to the Kafeel and they were surprised that the Kafeel had prepared her exit and ticket to go home. But due to the ill informing of a Kenyan (maybe he wanted to take advantage of her), the Kafeel took his dues after he give her remaining salary less the ticket which he purchased but non-refundable. Grace was assisted by KDCSA were able to arrange her booking and she left on the 15th.

Joyce Wanjiru Mukuhi and Lillian Omondi received their tickets from KDCSA to travel on 11th October early morning hours only Joyce managed to travel but Lilian Omondi's fate is as you all know.

Thank you for understanding and please feel free to continue asking or pointing us to the direction which will help us get where we should be and give the meaningful assistance where it deserves to be given.

The task ahead is not easy but where there is a will they will always be a way.
