About this app

This App is designed to send SMS text messages in 2 modes: SecretText or Standard Text. The SecretText mode can be either encrypted or non-encrypted, and in either case the message is Base64 encoded. The Standard Text mode is just that: regular text. Received messages of either mode are saved in the SMS Log, but the sent message is not. Either mode allows long continuous messages which are automatically reconstructed. The minimum required release level is Kitkat. The following is a brief list of the App's features.

• Pass-Phrase: choose a Pass-Phrase to enable encryption. Pass-Phrases are timed and when the time is up, the Pass-Phrase is destroyed. Choose a Pass-Phrase for each friend or one for all. Pass-Phrases must be shared between friends for the encryption option to work.

• SecretText Mode: the normal operational mode where messages are not encrypted, but are Base64 encoded and may be of extraordinary length. Decoding is automatic and a received message is directly readable.

• SecretText Encryption Mode: Enter a Pass-Phrase and encryption is automatic. The message is encrypted prior to being sent. The exact same Pass-Phrase must be used for decryption. Loose a Pass-Phrase and the message may never be decrypted. Received encrypted messages are not directly readable in the SMS Log. (Note: encryption is 56 bit DES)

• Standard Text Mode: an option may be set to send regular text messages. Regular text messages are received automatically without setting an option, and are directly readable.

• SecretText Handles: instead of using your friends names, give them a “handle” that will be associated with their phone numbers. SecretText has around 100 pre-chosen handles to use, or enter your own.

• Phone Numbers: SecretText contains an internal list of phone numbers and associated handles, if any. The list is editable and maintained by the user. Note: this App only handles US 10 digit phone numbers and leading characters such as + and 1 are removed.

• View SMS Log: the phone’s internal SMS log may be viewed for received text messages. There are options to delete entries, associate a handle to a phone number, view an encrypted message(the Pass-Phrase must be entered), show only messages from a single user, and recover SecretText messages that were received by an alternate Text Messaging App.

• Help and Information: this option allows the user to obtain helpful information about SecretText options.
