About this app

The SafetyNet Android application was developed by Ona to support the need for robust and timely community monitoring tools in Afghanistan. To access the Android application participants need to have an SafetyNet contributor account which is created by the administrators on the SafetyNet web application. The SafetyNet Android application is integrated with both ODK Collect and the Ona Data platform such that participants can save and participate on the available tasks once they have installed ODK Collect and forms have been uploaded to the SafetyNet Ona account.

The SafetyNet application allows users to receive data collection tasks through the application. Each task is time-stamped and GPS located. Once the forms have been finalised and submitted by participants, the administrators review them. Then, the participants will be able to view the provided feedback on the Android application, whether the submissions were of sufficient quality to be approved or rejected, together with incentive or payment information on the tasks that have been approved. The incentive or payment differs depending on the complexity of the tasks and the time taken to complete the task. The Android application is designed to function offline to enable tasks to be stored on smartphones until the participants are in a location where there is WiFi or cellular network, at which point the submissions can be uploaded to remote servers.

The SafetyNet Android application supports UNDP Afghanistan, which works closely with the Afghan government to support governance, law and order and livelihoods initiatives.
