Me personally ,I lost my pass slips but you only consider national ID... So the app still has loop holes to fix every item..

The problem with Uganda National Identity (ID) cards

Losing your original national ID is arguably the worst nightmare that can ever befall you in Uganda today. It is required for example, in order to replace or acquire a new SIM card for communication. Furthermore, most employers will request to see your original ID before they can offer you a job. The original national ID is also required before you can open up a bank account etc.

Despite this, it’s not uncommon for Ugandans to lose their original national IDs. Some of these lost original IDs are lying idle in banks, at police stations, at radio/public announcement stations to mention but a few.

The people who lost their national IDs have no clue which police station, district office, bank etc. is keeping their lost national ID. Therefore, they opt to replace it at NIRA. The replacement process is centralized in Kampala which makes it costly especially for people living upcountry, considering that it takes extremely long (can take more than a year with back and forth travels). In the same way, the people who pick lost IDs have no easy way (read time) of looking for the owners of the lost IDs.

This community self-help (bulungyi-bwansi) app bridges the communication gap between the person who lost his/her national ID card and the person who found or picked it. We encourage those whose IDs are lost to offer a modest reward to those who pick them.

HOW IT WORKS

1. If you lost your national ID...
• Start by searching our list of lost or found national IDs.
• If a match is found, you will be given the contact details of the person who picked it.
• If no match is found, you will be requested to announce it, indicating clearly how much money you are willing to pay whoever will find it.

2. If you picked someone's national ID...
• Start by searching our list of lost and or found national IDs.
• If a match is found, you will be given the contact details of the owner of that national ID.
• If no match is found, you will be requested to announce it, clearly indicating the reward that you want to be paid by the card owner.

NB: Please do not pay anyone a reward until you have touched and verified that it is your lost national ID.
