I just now tried a bunch of these, looking for a meter app to help find the correct level that audio should be mixed at, for my recording studio. Sure, I'll calibrate it with an actual meter when I'm finished with renovations but this app is pretty close, if it's not spot on. All the other ones I tried (started from the highest rating down) were way off. They were still only reading 73dB when it was dangerously loud and 43dB when the only noise in the room was a "silent" computer fan.

I use it all the time. I've never tested it via an independent source but it seems reasonably accurate. Also, as a bonus, it never crashes or hangs on my Pixel phone.

Solid, seems well calibrated, constantly updating to new models and OS versions. Very useful.

Very useful and easy to use. My phones have always measured values whose text descriptions matched the real environment. However, a manual calibration can be performed, to either match the description or even a calibrated sounds meter's reading

Great! The calibration facility makes it! Look up a sound chary on the Web and calibrate to the average levels for whisper / conversation. Not scientifically accurate but great for a guide

Works well for basic sound level testing quick and easy.

About this app

Sound Meter is in the 4th set of the Smart Tools collection.

Have you ever suffered from the noise of the neighbors?
SPL(sound pressure level) meter app uses your embedded microphone to measure noise volume in decibels(db), and shows a reference.

REMEMBER! Most smartphone microphones are aligned to human voice (300-3400Hz, 40-60dB). Voice calls do not require high-performance microphones.
Therefore the maximum value is LIMITED by manufacturers, and very loud sound(100+ dB) cannot be recognized. Moto G4 (max.94), Galaxy S6 (85dB), Nexus 5 (82dB) ...

You can easily check if my voice is loud in a lecture or if the TV volume I turned on is not too loud.
See 6th images. I calibrated major Android devices with an actual sound meter (dBA). You can trust the result in routine-noise levels (40-70dB). Please use it as an auxiliary tool.
