=== What does PhoneBot do? ===

PhoneBot listens for specially-formatted SMS (text) messages, and responds to the caller by either performing some action or returning some information.

PhoneBot is your digital assistant that others can access by sending you text messages.



=== How Does PhoneBot work? ===

PhoneBot listens to incoming text (SMS) messages. If the first word of the message is PhoneBot's name, it will interpret the rest of the text message as a request.

By default, PhoneBot's name is "PhoneBot". Text messages that do not use PhoneBot's name will be ignored, and you can view them in your phone's text message viewing app (they will not show up in PhoneBot).

Only AUTHORIZED callers can interact with PhoneBot. To become Authorized, the caller must send PhoneBot the correct password.

PhoneBot also supports:

- NickNames: Assign a friendly name to each number (PhoneBot INTENTIONALLY does not integrate with contacts -- check Help / FAQ for more info)

- WhiteList: Assign someone VIP status, such as your spouse our admin assistant, kids, etc... who are always automatically authorized

- BlackList: Silently ignore someone.

Display a full-screen alert -- quick message with an "OK" button

PhoneBot Ask
Ask a yes-no question -- displays a full-screen alert with Yes, No, Uncertain buttons (Driving-friendly)

PhoneBot Hi
Check to see if PhoneBot is listening

PhoneBot GPS
If GPS is active, this will return a link to Google Maps with the phone's current location. This is a great way to check on someone who's driving, check up on your kids, coordinate with staff, etc...

PhoneBot Reminder
Pop up a reminder at a specific time. Example, pop up a reminder at 3:30, asking to pick me up at 4.

PhoneBot Time
Shows the current date and time LOCAL to PhoneBot. If you travel, this is a great way for others to determine if it's a polite time to call you.

Geo Tracking
Sends out hourly updates with your location. Callers can subscribe, unsubscribe, and GeoTracking can be enabled or disabled.


=== Other Features ===

- AutoPilot: Configure auto-response ("busy" status) to text messages. If you are busy or driving, Phonebot can send a configurable response. Optionally, PhoneBot can alert you, when someone who is whitelisted texts you (VIP function) You will still be able to read and respond to any text messages later.


=== Features in Development ===

- Geo-fencing (distance from a location), or time (x minutes). This will be good for tracking relatives who travel, or keeping up with the kids.

- Retrieve certain information (specified up-front -- planning to define a content list of URLs or files that people can retrieve via PhoneBot) This would be useful to distribute information that changes quickly, where someone would normally have to call or text you to get it.

App Permissions

Allows an application to receive SMS messages.
Allows an app to access precise location.
Allows an application to send SMS messages.
Allows access to the vibrator.
Allows an application to receive the ACTION_BOOT_COMPLETED that is broadcast after the system finishes booting.
