This article outlines two straightforward methods for installing Media-Mute on PC Windows and Mac.

Using BlueStacks

After my initial enthusiasm, it stopped working after a day. Still looking for a reliable mute everything app on Huawei.

This essential app should be pre-installed on every android phone. Playing movies while your phone is on mute is guaranteed not to make a sound. I can now browse Reddit early in the morning or late at night without movie clips suddenly making a noise and waking my wife despite the phone being on silent. It does not mute your alarm clock. Top app!

Doesn't mute media! I still have constantly to turn it off in Settings. The horrible Moto start up is mercifully silenced, though.

I had to open the app every single time I set the phone to silent or else it wouldn't run. Then I might as well just manually mute media instead, so I uninstalled the app. Love the idea, though, so will go looking for a similar app that actually works on my phone.

This is what Android should be like stock. When you push mute, EVERYTHING should mute not just the ringer and notifications. On a Note 8 I use this plus another app to turn the useless bixby button into something similar to a mute switch that iPhones have.

Lost feature...previous version. You used to offer auto mutting from notification swipe on any audio "swipe down from top and mute all audio playing" and miss this feature. May have been a different app, but would love that option if still available?

About this app

When enabling the "silent mode" (Android 4.x), the "priority mode" (Android 5.0) or just switching to "vibration mode", apps are still able to play sounds through the "music" audio stream.
So music or video apps and games can still play music, even when the device should be muted.
"Media-Mute" automatically detects when you enter silent/priority/vibration mode and then sets the volume of the "music" audio stream to 0, muting even media apps and most games. When leaving silent/priority/vibration mode, the app restores your old volume.
Additionally, you can always overwrite the set volume by just increasing the volume with your hardware volume buttons while a video is playing.

The new "do not disturb mode" (Android 6.0+) works better, but apps are still able to make noise if you put your phone in "vibration" mode rather then the all-blocking DND mode.

New features

Re-added NotificationListener for Samsung Android 5.1+ devices (Samsung, once again, felt the need to do something different then every other manufacturer and implementeded the bugged 5.0 priority mode again in their 5.1 ROMs...). Without the NotificationListener, the app will only detect "Silent Mode" but not "Do not disturb" mode changes. Enable the NotificationListener if you use the "Do not disturb" option on Samsung devices running Android 5.1 (not required for any other manufacturer)
