The only reason I have an android is the customization. So much greater than the iBasics. I just cant understand why Verizon would take away this option to adjust the button lights. What is the motive? Money? This app works great. I can now use my S6 in the dark without the button lights blinking on and off in my eyes. Should save battery life, too.

Thank you so much! I'm sure that this setting was on the Tab S2 under display on Lollipop. I'm going to leave them on always when the screen is on. It can't take up that much power. Put in a donation button. You deserve it. This is something that Samsung should have done.

After months of trying to find the Galaxy Tab S2 lights in the dark, I happened on this app, which solved the problem. Very useful; actually necessary for full enjoyment of your Samsung Galaxy device. Other reviewers have stated that light settings offered by this app should be a standard feature, and they should be. Thanks to the developer for correcting this deficiency.

Does what it needs as the S7 doesn't give you this option anywhere. However, I would be thrilled if you could implement app exceptions, such as having the lights be off for specific apps of your choosing. Being able to set the lights off for a certain time period (e.g. night time) would also be nice.

Use this on my S7, it's crazy to dim the phone way down at night then still have the two super bright soft keys. But now with your app I can turn them off!! I wish you had a way to set them off from xx time to zz time, but still love having control to just turn them off! Great work, thanks!!!

Like others have said, this app should not have to exist, but I am extremely glad that it does! I can't wrap. My head around the stupidity of the software engineer choosing not to put the options in this app into the phone's core software. Especially since my Galaxy S3 had it! Oh well. Many thanks to the developer of this simple yet very much needed software. Now I can turn those stupid annoying capacitive button lights off for good!

About this app

This is a simple app to let you choose how long the capacitive buttons (recent apps and back arrow) at the bottom of a Samsung Galaxy phone stay lit. You can choose a time duration, always on when the screen is on, always off, or reset to the default duration.

The app will not work when you have power saving modes turned on. The device takes complete control of those backlights in that situation.

Added a day/night theme for Android 6+ devices so the interface will get dark at night. Added a material compliant icon as well. (This may break when it goes to Android N, but only time will tell!)

A new version was required due to Android permissions issues compiling against SDK 23.

It has been tested on Verizon models of Tab S2, S6 Edge, S7 Edge, and Note 7. I'll add other confirmed devices after people comment about them.

The app will not work on non-Samsung devices or on Samsung devices that don't have backlight buttons. The Galaxy Tab A line is an example. Those devices have no lights to turn on or off. The app will not work with custom ROMs. It has to be a standard Samsung ROM for the app to control the lighting.

App does NOT require root. It requires permission to write system settings so the changes can be saved. You will need to set back to Default in the app if you want your original timing. Uninstalling the app alone will not revert it.
