About this app

"DrgLines_MadeEZ" is an application for students, teachers and engineering professionals to learn, teach and draw "Lines" in Engineering Graphics / Drawing.

Visualizing and understanding the orientation of Lines is perhaps the most difficult part while studying Engineering Graphics / Drawing. It also forms the basis for subsequent topics like "Planes" and "Solids".

"DrgLines_MadeEZ" has procedures for 12 solved Examples. It walks the student through each step, highlighting the additions / changes made in every step. After the last step is completed, student can go back and review any step again till he understands the problem. Then he can take a new set of values for the same problem to solve it manually and check the solution using the App.

The slides shown above are for Example#12. They display the steps for solving following problem : "A line AB 95 mm long, has its end point A 60 mm above H.P. and end B 70 mm in front of V.P. Draw the projections if line makes 30° with H.P. and distance between end projectors of the line is 58 mm."

The App uses following 12 different parameters for a Line "AB":

(1)Length of Front View projection (a'b')

(2)Length of Top View projection (ab)

(3)True Length of the Line (L)

(4)Angle made by FV Projection with H.P.(Alfa : α)

(5)Angle made by TV Projection with V.P.(Beta : β)

(6)True Angle made by the Line with H.P.(Theta : ϴ)

(7)True Angle made by the Line with V.P.(Phi : Φ)

(8)Distance of one end of the Line from H.P.(delv1)

(9)Distance of same end of the Line from V.P.(dplan1)

(10)Distance of other end of the Line from H.P.(delv2)

(11)Distance of same end of the Line from V.P.(dplan2)

(12)Distance between two end projectors of the Line (D)

Notes :

(1) The default values used in various examples cover cases of projections of lines where one end point of the line (say 'A') is closer to both (H.P. & V.P.) the planes.
delv1 < delv2 & dplan1 < dplan2.

(2) If delv1 < delv2 & dplan1 > dplan2, then enter the values of Angles phi(Φ) & beta(β) as negative values.

(3) If delv1 > delv2 & dplan1 < dplan2, then enter the values of Angles theta(ϴ) & alfa(α) as negative values.

The opening screen displays following 4 options:

Select Example : Using this option the user can select any one of the 12 examples.
Then the user can enter the values for different parameters (out of the 12 parameters mentioned earlier) or keep the default values as they are. The user then can follow the step by step procedure to arrive at the solution. New entities drawn in a step are displayed in blue color while the dimensions and notes are displayed in  green color. After each step, user can zoom in or pan the figure on the screen to see the details more clearly. After the last step, any earlier step can be reviewed again for better understanding of the Line Problem.
