It asks root permissions in order to open files where root is not needed (external storage). Furthermore, once you give it root permissions, only /storage/* dirs appear in file dialogs meaning you can't explore system dirs even with root.

Seems to be only for "rooted" phones. Just keeps saying mine isn't rooted.
