About this app

Residue burning is a major issue in the state of Punjab in India, burning residue from the annual paddy and wheat harvest is a practice that dates back to decades. Crop waste burning emits particulate matter (both PM10 and PM2.5) and green house gases (GHG), which aggravate the poor air quality in Punjab, Haryana and the National Capital Region (NCR). Many policies have been mandated in the past few years to address this challenge. Yet, alternative technologies and practices have not been adopted widely, and the practice of burning crop waste persists.

To address this issue Punjab Remote Sensing Centre, Ludhiana have developed an Android based mobile application. The main aim of the app is to stop residue burning by imposing penalties/fine on the defaulters so that they can be made aware about how serious this issue is, moreover, it brings transparency in all the processes involved by assigning duties at various levels. The main emphasis of this app is to locate fire points correctly and uploading them on database so that the government can take action against defaulters by using the ATR Mobile App.
