I would like to purchase this app but don't understand if I can and doesn't seem to work if the app is not actually open. I wish it opened automatically and stayed on with screensaver.

It's not always on time (set to speak time every quarter hour), but the spoken time is correct - "zero nine colon twenty pm" (and yes, the colon is spoken...)
