Asks for permission to make and receive phone calls? After denying this, the app won't open. There's no earthly reason a pool light control app needs access to my phone.

Figured it out. If you install WiFi after remote you need to re-code it. Connect to Pal Lighting Wifi on device. Remove WiFi cover on the Driver. Hit the code button in the Driver (little black button to left) In whichever PAL screen you are in (I am using PAL 1) hold the "Speed" button up for 2 seconds. Should see red light flash 5 times. Now your phone should connect to the lights. A bit over complicated. You need to re-code your remote the same way after also.

What your not told is the wifi module in the receiver was updated to a replacement module "touch 5 42-pctwf5". Without this it simply won't work. If you have a more recent production unit it's probably working. Took some digging to find this out as the manufacturer seems keen to avoid publishing what's going on. The price for the 'working' unit is hundreds of dollars! Stick to the RF unit and forget about home automation. Whether the hardware is the same and it could of handled a firmware update you have to ask. Surely it could have as it's a very basic web server running on this thing.
