App definitely works and makes my life easier. you can set it to turn on usb tethering and/or open your tethering settings when plugged in. You need superuser acces and make sure you restart your phone once set up. I dont think the low rating people did this step!

usb auto tethering don't work for me on android 6, When I connect cable root access is granted but "usb tethering" remains disabled.

My phone is not rooted so it doesn't auto tether, but it makes the tether setting pop up when I connect my phone to my computer which is quite handy for me.
