डॉक्टर हरीसिंह गौर विश्‍वविद्यालय सागर (म.प्र) की ओर से किसानों के लिए केंचुआ खाद उत्पादन एवं प्रशिक्षण परियोजना का संचालन किया जा रहा है। विश्‍वविद्यालय की ओर किसानों को केंचुआ खाद बनाने की विधि और विशेषज्ञों द्वारा तकनीकी जानकारी दी जा रही है। किसानों को केंचुआ खाद बनाने के लिए उपयोगी विभिन्न प्रजातियों के केंचुआ विश्‍वविद्यालय की ओर से नि: शुल्क उपलब्ध कराये जा रहे है । परियोजना के तहत एससी/एसटी और अन्य कमजोर वर्ग के किसानों के लिए वर्मी किट नि: शुल्क दी जाती है। जिससे किसान जीरो बजट में केंचुआ खाद का उत्पादन ले सकें। इसके साथ ही जैविक खाद को रोजगार के रूप में अपनाने वाले युवा किसानों के लिए विश्‍वविद्यालय द्वारा जैविक खाद के उत्पादन और व्यवासयिक प्रशिक्षण कार्यक्रम का संचालन भी किया जा रहा है। जिसमें आॅनलाइन मार्केटिंग, टेर्ड मार्क, ब्राॅड एण्ड पेकिंग प्रोडेक्ट आदि की जानकारी दी जा रही है।

पिछले कुछ वर्षों में कैंचुये के द्वारा कम्पोस्ट बनाने की विधि विकसित की गयी है। जिसके द्वारा केवल 50 दिनों में गोबर कूड़ा-करकट आदि से खाद तैयार की जाती है। इस प्रकार से बनी खाद को वर्मीकम्पोस्ट कहते है। इसमें पोषक तत्वों की मात्रा साधारण कम्पोस्ट की तुलना में कई गुना अधिक होती है।
