About this app

This app is for a table tennis club on Campus. Students will be able to play throughout the week anywhere they wish (Student Center, Residence Halls, Rec Center, etc.). After any match, the either player can enter the scores of the game into the app.

At the beginning, each player will start with a rating of 1,000. Each player’s rating changes after each match. If two players of the exact same rating play, the winner will increase by 8 points and the loser will decrease by the same amount.

When players with different ratings play, it gets a bit more complicated. In general, the change in the ratings is between zero and 32, depending upon how much higher one player is rated than the other. The difference in the ratings are capped at 250.

Examples: 1,250 wins against 1,000 = no change

1,000 wins against 1,250 = change of 32 for each player

1,000 wins against 1,000 = change of 8

To find the change for the win/loss, use this formula: Y=0.000128X^2 – 0.064X + 8

Where: Y = change in rating as a result of the win/loss

X= difference in player ratings prior to the match (winner-loser)

Therefore: If the higher ranking player wins, X is positive.
