I figured that this would be an app where you can hit multiple keys at a time, not slide your fingers around on a too-sensitive plane with keys. I feel like that takes away from the whole point if steno. Full disclosure: I'm just some kid just getting started, but I don't think anyone would disagree that this could have been better implemented.

Oh, wow, this has just allowed me to connect my Stenoboard-based steno keyboard to an elderly Android tablet that doesn't have much other use, and I can put any custom dictionary in, including the standard Plover one. I now have a remarkably portable tablet-based steno machine - amazing! (I did also try the on-screen keyboard and it was surprisingly easy to get the hang of - I'm probably not going to take the time to get the hang of swiping between the letters, but it's nice to see how it's been done.)

I have only been using this program for a day, but using the Plover tutorials and the lookup dictionairy, I'm now typing all my messages using this app. It's not fast yet but already I prefer it to a normal keyboard. To the developer - the app sometimes shuts down and takes a few seconds to restart while in use.

Unable to select dictionaries that were unzipped to device. Just shows a few apps like music player and gallery but no way to find a file ending in .json

Great for when I want to write in Steno. I love the raw Steno for messages to my court reporter friends. Thank you for this app.

...but unusable in practice.

About this app

Are you an experienced stenographer, who wishes there were a way to use a familiar steno keyboard to quickly enter text on your phone?

Or, are you a stenography student, who would like to spend time practicing on your phone?

Perhaps you're just interested in trying out a chorded keyboard?

Steno Keyboard is a replacement virtual keyboard for your phone that does just that!

Use dual finger swipe gestures to press the keys for a given stroke, then release to send the stroke.
Use the '*' key to undo the last word.

Or, plug in a hardware keyboard (see below), and really experience some speed!

Steno Keyboard comes with a default dictionary from the Plover project (http://openstenoproject.github.io/plover/), but is fully customizable.

SETUP:
1. Install the app
2. Open Steno Keyboard, and click the button to enable it in settings.
3.Once this is done, whenever a keyboard is showing, pull down the notifications shade, and select "Choose Input Method" to select "Steno Keyboard".

TRY IT OUT: (swipe across the following letters from left to right)
RU
PW
TOB
A
PHAEUFD
SKAPL

TIPS:
- Install my "Steno Dictionary" app to look up English strokes.
- Click "Quick Start Tutorial" in the settings to learn the basics, and find links to other stenography training sites.

**Hardware Keyboard**
Steno Keyboard supports attaching a hardware USB keyboard to your device using a cheap OTG adapter (premium feature).

Using a hardware keyboard allows you to achieve typing speeds approaching those of a traditional steno machine. Find out more about how to do this at: http://qwertysteno.com/Basics/HowItWorks.php

NOTE: the keyboard must support n-key rollover, (such as a gaming keyboard) so that multiple keys can be pressed at the same time.
