This article outlines two straightforward methods for installing Notify on PC Windows and Mac.

Using BlueStacks

  1. Download the APK/XAPK file from this page.
  2. Install BlueStacks by visiting http://bluestacks.com.
  3. Open the APK/XAPK file by double-clicking it. This action will launch BlueStacks and begin the application's installation. If the APK file does not automatically open with BlueStacks, right-click on it and select 'Open with...', then navigate to BlueStacks. Alternatively, you can drag-and-drop the APK file onto the BlueStacks home screen.

Update: Improved, but still riddled with bugs. Unable to reliably select which lights are tied to which apps (check boxes will check themselves). For now the best way to use LIFX for notifications is via IFTTT

I'm don't even have lifx but once I used this app on another person's bulb I immediately felt they need to purchase a lifx JUST to use for this app

Sometimes, though, we don't have our phones with us or we can't hear the notification chime. That's where Notify comes in. Notify is an unofficial app that works with your LIFX lightbulb to deliver notification pulses to your light. You can customize the colors that your light will pulse, based on the orgin app of the notification. You can even select which lights each app will pulse.
