Installation Instructions

This article outlines two straightforward methods for installing NMEA Relay on PC Windows and Mac.

Using BlueStacks

  1. Download the APK/XAPK file from this page.
  2. Install BlueStacks by visiting http://bluestacks.com.
  3. Open the APK/XAPK file by double-clicking it. This action will launch BlueStacks and begin the application's installation. If the APK file does not automatically open with BlueStacks, right-click on it and select 'Open with...', then navigate to BlueStacks. Alternatively, you can drag-and-drop the APK file onto the BlueStacks home screen.
  4. Wait a few seconds for the installation to complete. Once done, the installed app will appear on the BlueStacks home screen. Click its icon to start using the application.

While it does work, it's network detection is quite finicky. It refuses to work in certain hotspot configurations (my phone as a hotspot with laptop connected, or my phone connected to laptop's hotspot), with a "no local network" error, even if the devices can communicate over TCP.

Does not terminate NMEA sentences the way many would expect. Had to use kplex with strict=no which isn't obvious for ye average user...

No connection or data detected by opencpn connection via TCP/port. Couldn,'t understand why. I had such hope...

About this app

Use your Android device as a portable GPS thanks to NRelay.

As soon as NRelay is started, GPS data received by your device are sent through local network (Wi-Fi, Ethernet) to an other machine.
This machine can use these data using NMEA protocol.
