Installation Instructions

This article outlines two straightforward methods for installing ScanFi : WiFi Analyzer and Surveyor on PC Windows and Mac.

Using BlueStacks

  1. Download the APK/XAPK file from this page.
  2. Install BlueStacks by visiting http://bluestacks.com.
  3. Open the APK/XAPK file by double-clicking it. This action will launch BlueStacks and begin the application's installation. If the APK file does not automatically open with BlueStacks, right-click on it and select 'Open with...', then navigate to BlueStacks. Alternatively, you can drag-and-drop the APK file onto the BlueStacks home screen.

Functionality: the best WiFi analyzer APP that I've tested. It would make 5 stars if it was just for this. (even if it is not the prettiest APP) Stability: I had several crashes accessing the graphs. Ads: there's no paid update to remove ads.

I loaded the app onto my phone and it asks that I grant permissions that are required by android but the specific permissions are not given. I don't know if i'm granting permissions for location and WiFi access which would be acceptable or if i'm giving more dangerous permissions such as contact access or ability to send/receive text messages. As an android developer, the specific permissions being granted should always be stated along with the reason. A link is given in the pop-up that leads to an android developer page but for non-developers this is not helpful and could potentially be misleading. This app looks great but unfortunately until this issue is fixed i will be searching for another app.

ScanFi is a wireless network analyzer that turns your Android phone into a passive scanning device. Now scan your wireless network without connecting to any access point, get all the details along with cool graphical representations.


This application would meet user expectations as a basic Wi-Fi Scanner/Analyzer with no additional hardware required. This application will ask for standard permission required as per Google/Android policies.

- Scan your wireless network for available access points, for their signal strength, SSID, MAC and much more.
- Get information of a specific access point, with a history graph of 60 seconds.
- Cool graphs to see all the activity on your WiFi network.
- Channel ratings to know the least crowded channel for transmission.
- Channel spread graph for 2.4GHZ and 5GHz bands.
- Support 2.4Gz and 5GHz scanning.
- Create Wifi strength survey of your house/apartment with default or your custom floor maps that you can load from your gallery.
- Check your average download speed.
- Know only the open access points around you.
- Search for Unknown/Hidden Access points.

Notes:
- This application is just an analyzer and not a WiFi connection tool.
- The 2.4GHz or 5GHz scanning capability needs to be present in the Android device hardware.
