About this app

The Geovision Structural Application is a app that has been developed by the Geovision CRCP.

It provides users with the ability to make structural geological observations using their Android devices.

The structural information of the oriented drill core plays an important role in mineral exploration. One of the most important measurements is the alpha-beta (α-β) angles of the structural features (e.g., veins and fractures) on the core. Existing tools and methods require manual measurement on all the drill cores, which is a time-consuming and error-prone procedure. To address these issues, we developed an algorithm to automatically measure the α-β angles from the 2D digital images of the cores.

Our method applies Computer Vision and Machine Learning techniques to detect the orientation line and model the geometry of planar structural features on the image, which will then be utilized to calculate the α-β angles. The time required is greatly reduced as there is no need to physically measure the cores once scanned by a camera.

The Geovision Structural App provides a quicker and easier way to collection structural information from the drill core. Our goal is to help the geologist better explore the ore deposits and improve the decision-making.

New features

Following issues have been rectified:
- Calculated alpha and beta angles are now persisted with the image
- Images are being consistently persisted to the gallery
- User ellipse changes are saved with the image
