About this app

Melody Notepad is a basic sheet music editor to quickly write a melody on a phone or tablet, and export it for continuation and refinement in desktop software MuseScore (open source). As a simple notepad (not a full-blown editor), it has only the minimum features, letting MuseScore take over afterwards and generate the final sheet music.

One usage of Melody Notepad is to convert handwritten melodies to electronic format, without needing too much time for data entry.

- G clef, notes from E3 to A6, no chords

- Only one big musical staff on screen, so that editing can be done quickly using fingers (the bigger the device the better; precise touching is more difficult on small phones; tablets are best for this app)

- Single tap on a line or interline to insert a note, double tap to replace a note; swipe left/right to scroll the melody

- Melody Notepad operates like a text editor, with a cursor, and keys Backspace, Delete

- Segments can be defined (with long press), copied and pasted

- Minimal sheet music display: limited note beaming, no slurs, no articulations, no dynamics, no grace notes, etc.. (all this is left to be done in MuseScore, which will automatically reformat properly the melody at importation)

- Only a few musical instructions supported: tie, triplet, repeat bar, volta bracket 1 and 2

- Basic playing of the melodies using piano sounds

- 5 musical genres can be defined, and melodies can be filtered by genre

- 3 examples included in the app

Melody Notepad is a free app, without ads, and no in-app purchases.
