About this app

The 2030 Agenda, with its pledge to leave no one behind requires equally bold changes in the UN development system. Several UN resolutions have urged the United Nations system organization to identify and accelerate the implementation of those business processes that promise the highest return from simplification and harmonization. These resolutions also encourage the United Nations system organizations to report on their cost savings resulting from improvement of their business operations. The UNDG has since developed the Business Operations Strategy (BOS) to reinforce the linkages between the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) and UN operations. The BOS framework supports UNCTs to take a strategic, results-oriented approach to planning, management and implementation of harmonized business operations at the country level.

Specifically, the BOS Results Framework is the basis for monitoring and evaluation of the BOS, ensuring accountability in accordance with standard principles of UN Results Based Management (RBM). It captures the joint priorities of common business operations for cost avoidance and quality enhancement. The BOS Results Framework is the basis for annual work planning and development of the BOS Budgetary Framework and structures the BOS Results Narrative.

This BOSApp demo shows a how the BOS Results Framework can be used to provide quick updates on the progress of in-country BOS operationalisation across the different common service pillars (Procurement, Human Resources, ICT, Protocol, HACT etc.) The App can facilitate data entry, processing, analysis, and provides the OMT with access to dashboards, early warning systems and reports. This BOSApp on android, puts the BOS “in the hands” of the OMT members by providing vital updates on ongoing activities across the agreed common service offerings. Snap “Quality of service surveys” and ‘Vendor assessments” are some of the embedded platforms which should support the OMT with vital information that can inform Programming outcomes. The OMT annual work plan is also embedded in the BOSApp and provides a structured approach to attaining them.

The sample data in this demo app is based on a draft of a Business Operations Strategy Results Framework for United Nations Jordan.

New features

This new version of the BOSAPP includes a new pillar on Management Processes, besides the pillars on Procurement, Human Resource, ICT, HACT and Protocol. The App launcher icon has also been updated.
