About this app

Traditional Taekwondo martial art typically refers to fighting techniques practiced by the kwans during the 1940s and 1950s, though in reality the term "Taekwondo" had not yet been coined at that time, and indeed each Kwan (school) was practicing its own unique fighting style.

â–¶ Tae â—€ has a destructive meaning with legs like to strike with the foot.
â–¶ Kwon â—€ has boxing meaning like to strike with the hand.
â–¶ Do â—€ has the meaning of "the way" or art.

There are two taekwondo styles mainly that have some differences:
â–¶ World Taekwondo Federation or WTF is South Korean and is the TKD style used in the Olympics. WTF is certainly geared more towards sport sparring in most dojos. There are some variations in the ways that kicks, blocks and punches are executed.
â–¶ International Taekwondo Federation or ITF is also South korean but is known as North Korean because of General Choi Hong Hi's exile from South Korea. ITF is for self defence and is more about the art of how the human body could generate maximum power with the taekwondo techniques.
