Welcome to TemptationTamer

Before you get started on the app, read of the aims of TemptationTamer below and use this information in conjunction with the Rules page (found in the app) to play the game and beat temptation. Remember, we have set this app up as a game so have fun. If you don't succeed, learn the lessons, then try again. That's how games work. You only ever fail if you give up.

The goal of TemptationTamer is simple:

Accumulate successive victories over temptation to create runs of success. Every third unbroken victory you score, you receive a new trophy and unlock a new level with a matching coloured home screen. The coloured home screens work like the different belts in martial arts. Starting at white, work your way through yellow, orange, green, blue, red, purple and eventually black where you get the opportunity to win the game. Beware though, if you fail to beat temptation, you start back at the beginning. Think of it like a game of Snakes and Ladders. Achieve 21 successive victories and you will be crowned KING OF TEMPTATION.

To help motivate you, when you feel that urge to snack taking over, simply press the Start button on the Home Screen and a 20 minute countdown will begin. Motivational images and quotes will inspire you to delay those impulsive urges. To help strengthen your resolve, you can either select images from one of our pre-installed categories that match your own goal, or create your very own playlist from images you have taken on your phone. The more personal your playlist, the better your chance of success.

At the end of every successful countdown, you can enter either a financial or calorific saving. This will accumulate and show you your total savings as your efforts accumulate. Have no fear though, these do not reset if you don't beat delaying temptation. If you choose to save calories, you may need to estimate how many calories you just saved but it is worth making this approximation as TemptationTamer will then tell you how long it would have taken you to burn those calories off on a treadmill. That can be quite a revelation and really makes you think the next time you are tempted to impulsively snack!

Now, we understand you are only human and you won't win every time. We are also aware that social science dictates that those working in groups or with some kind of support have a much higher chance of success. That is why we have installed a Buddy system in the Settings screen. This allows you to enter the number of a friend who will become your TemptationTamer Buddy. Every time you start a countdown, TemptationTamer will text them your result. They can then text you back with words of encouragement or support. Why not get a group of friends to start TemptationTamer together and use each other as Buddies? We can't emphasis enough how important this tool is in helping you achieve success!
