About this app

AKSATA THE WELLNESS STORE

AKSATA a Sanskrit word which means everlasting. Our store name AKSATA has it’s origins from the traditional word “Akshata”. Symbolically, Akshata represents prosperity, fertility and bounty. The word "AKSATA" denotes blessings “Akshata” consists of uncooked rice mixed with turmeric. It is considered holy and used as:
- Offering to deity
- A way to offer blessings
- Bless bride and groom during weddings.

Ancient Grains and the Pre-historic Millets:

We have "Grains" such as Foxtail millet, Barnyard millet, Little millet, Kodo Millet and quinoa, are called "ancient" because they've been around, unchanged, for millennia. By contrast rice and modern varieties of wheat have been bred selectively over thousands of years to look and taste much different from their distant ancestors. The millets are a group of small-seeded grasses, widely grown around the world as cereal crops or grains for both human food and fodder. They have been cultivated and grown since pre-historic times. However over times their consumption had been taken over by modern foods such as rice.

These ancient and millets have been preserved and highly conserved by traditional methods of farming by certain tribes in the heart of central Tamil Nadu.

Considering their health benefits we sought out to re-introduce the healthy tradition and give back to the community ‘healthy food’…food that preserves life….food that promotes a healthy life….

The inspiration came from visits to several countries like USA, Europe, Malaysia, Singapore where there has been a surge in stores selling organic healthy whole grains. From this experience we thought why not we bring them to our own India where westernization has taken a toll on life and leading to more people with diabetes, hypertension, obesity and cardiac problems.

After a search for healthy food all across the world…the founders of the company found the “hidden jewels among the grains” nestled, preserved and cultivated in the heart of Tamil Nadu by our own tribes who live a life entwined with nature.

We partnered with them and the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University to support these “traditional organic farmers”. Our mission is to expand the market for these organic products growth in a very environmental friendly way.
