About this app

The AWINSheep App is a useful tool developed with the aim of enabling farmers, veterinarians and technicians to collect the indicators included in the first level of the AWIN welfare assessment protocol for sheeps.
The first level welfare assessment provides a quick screening, consisting of a selection of robust and feasible animal-based indicators, which can be readily applied and require no handling of animals.
If is required a second level welfare assessment, animals must be chosen by the assessor, and if it is impossible to inspect from all animals on the farm, they should be sampled from the area of the farm which was considered to have the worst scores from the first level welfare assessment
This welfare assessment protocol is intended for adult sheep (older than 1 year), where the protocol has been tested. Please download the whole protocol, by clicking this link: http://dx.doi.org/10.13130%2FAWIN_goats_2015 No individual or organization can be considered capable of applying this method in a robust, repeatable, and valid way without appropriate training. Untrained assessors should not use this protocol because the data obtained will not be valid.
