Onychomycosis is the medical term for nail fungus, that is, a proliferation of microscopic fungi under the nails of the hands or feet.
A source of discomfort and medical and aesthetic discomfort, onychomycosis is the most common nail condition. It affects about 10% of the population. If left untreated, it can be passed on to the rest of the family and others.

Fungi causing nail fungus are generally dermatophytes, more rarely yeast type Candida albicans, or exceptionally mold.

Contagion
The fungal infections of the nails are very contagious. They can spread to other nails, but also to other parts of the body, such as on the buttocks or between the thighs.

The main causes are heat and humidity due to perspiration, which favor in shoes often closed, an ideal growth medium for fungal infections. Nail damage is often associated with reaching the spaces between the toes and the soles of the feet.
sYMPTOMS
The main symptom is a change in the appearance of the nail: it is raised, deformed and takes a generally yellowish color.
