About this app

Proof of concept app for kids, learning about their environment with open data.

You can compare capitals of the world, and guess where more people live. The app includes data for all capitals, but pictures and audio for 20 of them, you can add your own pictures and sound for the rest.

Made for this competition: http://www.hackingforsustainability.nl
For now, it is a bit rough around the edges.

The game tries to let kids explore open data in a way that makes sense to them. No maps, coordinates, tables or graphs. Instead it's based on pictures of specific iconic locations, supported by audio and a simple question: "Here or there?"

When it entered the competition, it onlly contained Dutch content, since then we added population data for the capitals of the world.

With this app we like to show how open data can be used to create simple fun games, where teachers and parents can expand on the game content by simply adding pictures and audio.

The app comes with a limited set of data, but can be easily expanded on with many more in future versions.
