বাজরিগার (budgerigar)প্রধানত অস্ট্রেলিয়ার পূর্ব ও দক্ষিণ-পশ্চিম উপকূল অঞ্চলে বনাঞ্চলের পাখি। তাছাড়াও তাস্মেনিয়া এবং আশপাশের কয়েকটি দেশেও এই পাখি দেখতে পাওয়া যায়। বনে বাস করে এমন বাজরিগার লম্বায় প্রায় ৬.৫ থেকে ৭ ইঞ্চি হতে পারে। তবে খাঁচায় পালা পাখি লম্বায় ৭ থেকে ৮ ইঞ্চি হয়ে থাকে। বন্য পাখির ওজন ২৫ থেকে ৩৫ গ্রাম। আর খাঁচায় পালনকারা পাখির ওজন ৩৫ থেকে ৪০ গ্রাম পর্যন্ত হয়।

শুধুমাত্র অস্ট্রেলিয়া মেলোপসিট্টাকাস প্রজাতির এই পাখি ১৭০০ শতাব্দিতে তালিকাভূক্ত হয়। বাজরিগার প্রাকৃতিকভাবে সবুজ ও হলুদের সঙ্গে কালো রংয়ের হয়। এছাড়াও থাকে নীল, সাদা, হলুদ রংয়ের ছোপ। সারা গায়ে পেটের নিচে আকাশি, হলুদ বা অন্য রংয়েরও হয়ে থাকে। এই পাখির উপর গবেষণা চালিয়ে অস্ট্রেলিয়ার অধিবাসীগণ প্রতিপালন শুরু করে সফলতা পায়। জানতে পারেন ঘনঘন ব্রিডিং সম্ভব এই পাখির। একবার যদি বাচ্চা দেওয়া শুরু করে তো আর থামেই না।
