They've really fixed the place up! The time I toured Death Valley in the 90's I did stop off at Darwin to take some "ghost town" shots to round out my portfolio. Looking at this app, I don't know who invested all this money with these vintage looking buildings and everything but it sure looks better - even though it's lost it's original character since they cleared out all the run down shacks. Next time I find my way to California I'll have to swing by again! Go, Darwin!

This tour should be an essential part of any visit to Darwin. Richly complex in history - personal, political, cultural, social & economic. Highly accessible in language & mobility. We loved it!

A very enjoyable app. Easy to download and manoeuvre from page to page as you walk or to listen to at your leisure. Beautifully delivered by a true local who has a genuine historic connection to Darwin. Having wandered past many of the sites during previous visits, I had no idea about the rich history that the dwellings and locations hold. It's the full package that, because of the integrated sounds, guides you on an intriguing journey that leaves you richer in experience and knowledge.

A wonderfully put together narrative tour that shares the history of Darwin's war-torn past as well as its recovery to the beautiful city it is today. The narrator does an amazing job and the personal touch he puts on his stories was a definite plus! Enjoyable from start to finish!

About this app

The Darwin Audio Tours app is brought to you by the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory. It features two self-guided audio walking tours in Darwin.

On the Inside shares the hidden stories of Darwin’s notorious Fannie Bay Gaol narrated by Larrakia Elder Dr Richard Fejo. Fannie Bay Gaol is located on the corner of East Point Rd and Ross Smith Ave, Fannie Bay, Darwin and is open Wednesday to Sunday from 10am – 2pm.

A Tale of Four Cities is an audio walking tour of central Darwin. Destroyed four times through cyclones and war, the real Darwin can be hard to see. Over one hour, local broadcaster Charlie King OAM, will introduce you to Darwin's Traditional Custodians, others who fought to survive here, and the mad visionaries who built a new Darwin after each disaster.

Recorded binaurally, both tours feature immersive 3D stereo sound recorded with the help of dozens of Darwin locals. Simply download the free app, put your headphones on and step back in time.
