In a move that has rattled the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday abolished Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes effective midnight. The move, aimed at tackling fake notes and the black money economy, is expected to have a huge impact on the economy, equivalent to a substantial withdrawal of money or a significant hike in the interest rates. He expressed confidence that the staff of banks and post offices will rise to the occasion to introduce the new order within the available time. The Indian government had done something similar in 1978 when it demonetised Rs 1,000, Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000 notes.

11 नवंबर तक यहां चलेंगे 500 और 1000 रुपये के नोट
पीएम मोदी ने कहा कि सामान्य नागरिकों की जरूरतों के मुताबिक 11 नवंबर रात 12 बजे तक विशेष व्यवस्था है। 11 नवंबर तक सभी सरकारी अस्पतालों में इन नोटों को स्वीकार किया जा सकेगा। इसके अलावा मेडिकल स्टोरों में भी डॉक्टर के पर्चे पर 72 घंटे तक दवा खरीदने की व्यवस्था भी उपलब्ध रहेगी। वहीं, रेलवे स्टेशन, बस अड्डों और एयरलाइंस के टिकट बुकिंग काउंटरों पर भी इन्हें स्वीकार किया जा सकेगा। इसके अलावा सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र के सीएनजी, पेट्रोल और डीजल स्टेशनों पर भी इन्हें स्वीकार किया जा सकेगा।

30 दिसंबर के बाद भी जमा हो सकेंगे नोट
पीएम नरेंद्र मोदी ने कहा कि 30 दिसंबर तक जो लोग अपने इन नोटों का जमा नहीं करा पाएंगे। उनके लिए इसके बाद भी 500 और 1000 रुपये के पुराने नोटों को जमा करने का विकल्प रहेगा। ऐसे लोग लोग रिजर्व बैंक के निर्धारित ऑफिस में अपनी आय की घोषणा के साथ जमा कर सकेंगे।

अब सिर्फ कागज के टुकड़े रह जाएंगे ये नोट
अब भ्रष्टाचारियों के पास मौजूद ये नोट सिर्फ कागज के टुकड़े रह जाएंगे। ईमानदारी से काम करने वाले लोगों के हितों की पूरी रक्षा की जाएगी।
