When you scan a barcode (and it can be a QR Code, DataMatrix or a linear barcode like the ones used in supermarkets), the scanner firstly checks if the ID belongs to a client-system that has signed up to NuEra ID. If the barcode can't be found in the NuEra ID Lookup Server, the scanning application will "Google" the ID. In many instances, if the item has a Universal Product Code (UPC), it might be listed with Google. For example, try scanning a can of Carnation Light & Creamy Evaporated Skim Milk. It works. But with other products it does not (because they are not listed on the Google search engine) and that illustrates how deficient the present GS1 UPC barcoding system is. If everyone used NuEra ID it wouldn't matter what it was, you would find out all the information you are entitled to by scanning the barcode! :-). Just imagine if all the postal and courier services used this! How easy would that be!??

This application scans a variety of bar codes so it can be used for many things. Will be very handy when nu-era is on every product made in the world!

About this app

This is a flexible and useful application for reading QR Code and DataMatrix barcodes. If the barcode represents a web-site, the application will take you to that website.

But... interestingly, if the barcode represents a NU-ERA identifier, the server will either handle the request or refer the scan to a NuEra ID's customer's server for it to handle. For example, if you have just scanned a bottle of wine and the wine maker is using NuEra IDs, it would be possible for the wine-maker's server to tell you all about the bottle you have scanned; including the person who made the wine, when it is best consumed, and, depending on retailers cooperation when the wine was distributed and sold. (This prevents people selling counterfeit wine.)

The universal adoption of NuEra ID's technology will significantly combat the causes of "Retail Leakage" (costing the retail industry $120 billion per year) and assist in the prosecution of wrongdoers. In the case of the wine bottle, it would tell you if the wine had been stolen.

NU-ERA makes cost affordable the individual identification of any item of interest in an organisation or process.
By achieving this, it is then possible to scan any item and learn of its life's history; including whether it has passed through a point of sale.

Importantly, NuEra ID's unique System of Individual Identification can interface and inter-cooperate with any existing ID system, including GS1.

Centres around a Registry of Unique Encrypted Identifiers that is effectively inexhaustible.

Can be used with any "Automatic ID Technology" capable of representing 128 bits of data.
Requires 60% less Effort than conventional hierarchical systems of identification such as GS1.
Has involved the development of a novel barcode that is highly resistant to dirt and damage, a reader, a laser etcher and application software.

Utilises Open Source Software to make its software freely available to users; providing every possible assistance to users.

Is based on a Commercial Model where cost to users is small and income is derived from the sale of numbers and the provision of consultancy services.
