About this app

Зоологическата градина в София е създадена през 1888 г. с указ на Княз Фердинанд Сакс-Кобург-Готски. Той е бил любител на природата с интереси и познания в областта на ботаниката и зоологията. Първото животно в зооколекцията е бил черен лешояд (картал), уловен от българската природа и подарен на княза.
Царската зоологическа градина е била изградена в близост до Софийския университет и се е радвала на голям интерес от гражданите на София и от жителите на цялата страна. През 1984 г. зоопаркът заедно с всичките му обитатели е бил преместен в подножието на Витоша, на сегашното място.
Днес Зоологическа градина София е най-голямата и най-старата на Балканския полуостров. Разположена е на площ от 235 декара и в нея живеят около 2000 животни от 250 вида от цял свят, като зооколекцията непрестанно се обогатява и нараства. Софийският зоопарк е сред Стоте национални туристически обектa на Българския туристически съюз.
