About this app

D-brief.me is a novel, multifunctional application which allows resident surgeons to have structured, frequent evaluations of their technical performance in the operating room.

It contains the following sections:
• Logbook
• News Feed
• Resident Evaluations
• Staff Evaluations
• Wellness Questionnaire.

Resident surgeons add new cases to their Logbook on a daily basis. After 4 to 6 hours of operating time, the resident surgeons are evaluated using the Ottawa Surgical Competency Operating Room Evaluation (Gofton, W. T., Dudek, N. L., Wood, T. J., et al. (2012). The Ottawa Surgical Competency Operating Room Evaluation (O-SCORE): a tool to assess surgical competence. Academic Medicine : Journal of the Association of American Medical Colleges, 87(10), 1401–1407.). The resident’s assessments are then stored for future analysis.

The app is functional only for university programs that have adopted this assessment tool.
