About this app

In the defence arena, BOF is a unique installation of its kind. Establishment of Bangladesh Ordnance Factory commenced in 1968 with the technical and financial assistance of Peoples Republic of China. The total area of the factory is 302.86 acres. It was then governed through POF Board with a Brigadier as its Chairman. The chronological developments of BOF are as follows.
a. On 06 April 1970 the factory was formally inaugurated.

b. In 1971 due to our liberation war, construction work was hampered and the Chinese team left the factory.

c. In 1976 a 45 member technical team came from China and completed remaining works like provisioning of machinery, tools, gauges, fixture etc.

d. In 1977 the factory went for regular production.

e. In 1981 another Chinese team came and established the explosive section of the factory to produce primer for the SA ammo.

f. In 1982-83 BMR (Balancing, Modernization and Replacement) works started and completed in 1987.

g. After the BMR, the yearly production target of the factory was determined to be 2500 rifles and 15million ammunition per annum.

h. In 1988 BOF with a Major General as its commandant was directly placed under Chief of Army Staff’s Secretariat and a new organizational setup with a total manpower of 2235 was approved.

j. In 2000 the Gazette notification for new organizational setup was published.

k. In May 2002 the Gazette notification on Recruitment & Promotion Rule was finally approved and published.

l. From 2002 to 2005, BOF achieved remarkable success to commence functioning of three major production factories which are TNT filling plant, Grenade manufacturing plant and Induction furnace plant.

Project on establishment of Automatic Assault Rifle BD-08 factory was under taken in 2004-2005 FY and it was successfully implemented in 2008.
As a part of modernization and expansion of small arms ammunition production, a new project termed as CB-10 Project was successfully implemented in 2012.
