Riffraff is a tower defense game which is a "Augmented Reality Game". The game can only be played if you have downloaded the Ground Plane via your PC or Laptop. Can either be printed or just be visible in your PC or Laptop in order to be detected for the game to be played.
When the game opens, before it begins, the player will be shown a main menu screen with three options: Play, Settings and Exit. Upon clicking the play, a text will be shown at the bottom of the page that says “Please Scan Ground Plane” in order for the game to finally start. When the device has detected the ground plane, a school-like environment will appear with a five by eight (5x8) game board. When the game begins, the player will have an extra five seconds and an initial amount of Sixty Pesos (P60) to set up his defenses before trash will spawn randomly at the game board. Towers that will be used as defenses are commonly used hygiene and sanitation products namely: soap, water, gloves, towel, and alcohol or disinfectant. The player has to select a tower of choice on the right side of the screen which displays all five (5) options and tap a square on the board to place the selected tower. Once the five-second allowance is over, trash will then begin to spawn randomly in the first 3 spaces of the game board. Trash that spawn randomly will be the spawning point for germs. When the player taps on a randomly spawned trash, it will enlarge, indicating the selected trash, the player will then have to put the selected trash on the correct bin in order to stop it from spawning any more germs and earn money. Towers will spit out bullet-like defenses which can damage and decline the health of germs until they eventually get killed. When germs are not killed and they come in contact with the towers, the tower will then disappear or explode and so will the germ, the player’s health bar will also decrease significantly. Towers that have exploded with the germs and have disappeared can be replaced immediately provided that the player has enough money to buy another. When a certain kind of germ gets too many, a pop-up will inform the player that he/she is infected by the disease that is either: pneumonia, fever, cold, diarrhea, and leptospirosis which is carried by the germs. Whilst infected by the disease, player’s health decreases gradually. In the event that the player picks up and drops a trash in the correct bin consistently over a period of time, a health capsule will be dropped at the screen. Health capsules heal diseases and replenish the health of the player.
The game will progress in a way that is adaptive to the user’s capability to play the game but it will not slow down when the player gets tired of keeping the pace. The game will continue to progress. When the pace of the game becomes more difficult, and if the player has accumulated enough coins, he/she can opt to upgrade his/her towers in order to keep playing the game longer as it gets difficult. The game ends when the player’s health decreases to a zero.
At the end of the game, a screen will display the player’s score will then be compared to the stored highest score within the game. When the present score beats the old one, a “Congratulations!” screen will be displayed and a “Better luck next time” if otherwise.
