About this app

Kubbee: A free mobile English language learning app. Coproduced with a
women’s group in Glasgow, this language learning app is based on the personalised
needs of community members.

There are four tuition language options. These include: Romanian, Slovak, Polish
and Hungarian.

The app has three learning sections including: My Lessons, My Cards and
Situations.

Vocabulary building is based on three themes: health, school and family. Words are learned through a multiple-choice format. The unique and innovative ‘create a card’ feature within My Cards section allows learners to create their own learning content by producing personalised flashcards to document and learn new vocabulary.

Practice reading, listening and speaking skills with audio, visual and written learning
content.

No internet connection is required to use this app.

STEP is the Centre for Mobile Cultures and Education within Moray House School of Education, University of Edinburgh. The Centre’s overarching aim is to improve educational outcomes for children and young people from mobile cultures. STEP responds to real issues, identified by families and practitioners at local levels, and promotes new ways of understanding how education can support the geographical movement of children and families in contemporary society. This app is the outcome of a participative, digital and arts-based project with Roma families who co-produced a language learning app to support communication with schools and improve access to services and the wider community.
