About this app

(a) About this APP - This APP facilitates learners from Class 10 or thereabouts upwards to acquire Communicative English language skill sets in reading, speaking, listening and writing. The learning is facilitated by volunteer mentors who will guide the learner throughout the learning process.

(b) What is the SAIN IN APP? – Most school teachers, adult learners, and youth in India who come with a vernacular background do not have the necessary confidence and skill sets to communicate in English. The SAIN IN - THE ENGLISH APP aims to provide a self-paced online platform for these learners to learn the language with adequate guidance and support from assigned mentors, who provide this service on a voluntary basis. The APP guides the learners to learn, post queries, complete lessons and submit assessments with their mobile device without the need to be online at all times. It also facilitates mentor review and provides online guidance to the learner. The APP has provision for audio submissions for speaking and reading related lessons.

(c) What is the process for enrolment in the APP? - Anyone who wants to learn the language can use the APP for free. However, this is not a self-learning, self-enrolled course. The course needs mentors to provide guidance, so potential learners need to first enroll and await confirmation from the SAIN IN coordinators on the availability of mentors. To enroll, please write to SAININ.helpdesk@sssvv.org indicating your location, email ID and contact number. You shall receive a response within 5 working days.

Enrollment is not required for new mentors wishing to provide voluntary services to teach English to potential learners. They can directly register in this app.

(d) What is the registration process? - Once a learner gets a confirmation that he / she is enrolled, the learner may register using the app. He or she would be required to verify the email address (which becomes the user id) provided at the time of enrollment as well as provide certain personal and contact information. The learner can define her/his own password as per the password policy. Upon completion of the registration, an email will be sent to the learner email ID to validate the same. Once validation is done, the learner can commence his or her learning. In parallel, a mentor will be assigned to the learner and the details of the mentor can be obtained in the home page of the app.

Mentors wishing to provide voluntary (free) services can directly register and provide details as sought by the app. Once registered, a SAIN IN Coordinator shall contact you within 5 working days and provide details of the mentorship role, including time requirements etc. If required, the potential mentor may need to attend an orientation program before being confirmed in the system as a mentor.

(e) What is the learning process? - Every learner starts with the Basic Course and moves on to the Intermediate, Upper Intermediate and Advanced levels. Each level has approximately 20 to 30 lessons and on successful completion and passing of the final assessment the learner is awarded a certificate for that course, through the app.

The learning happens in sets of 5 lessons each. Each lesson may have separate components for listening, speaking, reading and writing. Learners need to complete each lesson and submit it. This can be done at the learner's own pace and the app allows multiple iterations. On submission, their assigned mentors will review and provide feedback, or they will approve the same. Learners can also post queries to their mentors. At the end of each set of five lessons, the learner must pass an assessment. If successful, they can download the next lesson set and proceed with the process of learning the next five lessons. This process needs to be repeated until all the lessons in the course have been completed. An external assessment will be carried out and if cleared, a certificate will be provided through the app.
