About this app

The Philokalia is a collection of spiritual Greek texts compiled by St. Nikodemos of the Holy Mountain and St. Makarios of Corinth. The texts are written by various monks from the 4th until the 19th century. They are arranged in chronological order and they make up a total of five volumes, although only four volumes have been translated into English.

The material focuses on developing a rich prayer life, and on ways to make progress in the virtues. Often there is a strong ascetic nature to the material with recommendations for fasting and depriving oneself of luxuries.

The application presents the texts in English in an easy to navigate form using menus and tabs. The font size can be changed through the Settings menu.
