About this app

Basil of Caesarea, or St. Basil the Great, was born in 330 AD, in Caesarea to a wealthy, devout family. He began his career as a lawyer and teacher, but his life radically changed on becoming Christian. He left his home country to spend time with the Egyptian monks. When he returned, he founded his own communities of monks and was, in time, chosen to be the bishop of his home-town.

As a bishop he was known for his care of the poor, and as a zealous defender of the true Christian faith. He died in 379 AD.

St. Basil wrote many works, the following of which are included in this app:

1) A Sketch of the Life and Works of Saint Basil by Philip Schaff
2) De Spiritu Sancto (On The Spirit)
3) Nine Homilies of Hexaemeron
4) Letters
5) Ascetical Works

These works are provided in an easy to navigate app form with a built in text-to-speech reader. The font size and the rate of speech are adjustable.
