Maquiavel é um autor clássico da Ciência Política e um de seus precursores, pois sugeriu uma nova forma de analisar a política: análise das formas concretas da ação política, isto é, ver a política como ela é e não como deveria ser. Assim, ele propõe a noção moderna de objetividade científica e analisa a política de acordo com a disposição dos atores políticos e suas ações. E convém ressaltar que Maquiavel trabalha muitas idéias práticas, mas não se restringe a idéias morais.
