A hidden gem, this app's simplicity modestly disguises its utility and ease of use. What I would like to see is upgrading the Journal to save my own commentary for each reading along with the hexagrams received.

I didn't realize that the initial app purchase Did not cover app. You are allowed 1 free question for app purchase 5.99, And then future questions are each 5.99. That's ridiculous

Love it... "thoughts are things"... and your thoughts do affect physical matter.. it is the observer that creates its own and only its own reality and what and how the observer perceives will create the molecule to change in the direction of the observer... "IF YOU THINK YOU CAN, OR YOU THINK YOU CANT.. EITHER WAY YOUR RIGHT.. ITS YOUR THINKING THAT MAKES IT SO.. ".. -HENRY FORD.. **people who "KNOW".knows its true.. the ones that aren't "AWAKE" yet will think its just an app and fun**

Great app, simple to use. Interesting, intriguing, and thought provoking. A good companion to life's exploration and thoughts. Good price and ad free.

Simple, uncluttered user interface. Fair price. At first I was skeptical about attempting to consulting the Oracle through an electronic device, but I'm happily surprised that it works well. Thanks for developing.

This is a solid app, and it is much more in-depth in its explanations of the readings than other apps I've used before this. I'm rating it four stars because, while it's a great app, it would be made perfect if there were some kind of widget function for it.

About this app

Many, many users call it the best. Whether you are new to casting the I Ching or an old hand, whether you use it as an oracle, an aid to creativity, or a mirror of your subconscious, you'll love the clarity of writing, the intuition in the design, and the simplicity of use of this version. The modern, no-nonsense interface delivers new users straight to the basics: you ask a question, the I Ching answers. For old souls who know the book well this app holds a wealth of features for deeper research.

• Journal lets you store unlimited questions and readings, with unlimited space for notes on each of your casts -- all searchable by hexagram or text
• No ads, no in app purchase requests, no nag screens
• The open source software engine precisely replicates the ancient Yarrow Stalk method
• Immediately loads to question prompt for quick consultation
• A lookup library of all 64 hexagrams and all changing lines - by hexagram, by trigram, by numeric or visual render
• Look up any reading by Hexagram number and changing lines (e.g. type 11.16 in the question box for hexagram 11 with a changing line at the bottom [1] and top [6])
• Search the entire library of Judgement, Image, and Line texts
• NightMode display option
• AutoSave option to save all your questions unprompted
• User-configurable font sizes for easier reading
• Coin menu if you prefer that method and want to toss your own coins
• Animated Virtual Coins you can cast by gently shaking the device
• Gua screens with chakra, fen shui, body part, and Human Design elements for reference
• Helpful help for beginners with insights for experienced users
• Original texts based on the Wilhelm Baynes translation made less gender-presumptive
• Fresh interpretations that weave modern literary and cultural references, beautifully crafted to make you "laugh, cry, and everything in between". (Source: user!)
• Original ancient Chinese text included as an alternate library.
• Easter eggs. Just sayin. 🤫

If you prefer to count your own stalks or cast your own coins there's a manual hexagram builder to let you lookup, store, and comment on your casts.

The wisdom and philosophy of the ancient Chinese texts blend seamlessly with commentaries that gently mix a dash of modern poetry, a pinch of humor, and cultural grace notes from the worlds of art, music, divination, and literature to bring you what many daily users have called the very best I-Ching / Yi Jing / Iching / I Ching app available.

Following the tradition of Baynes and countless interpreters of the original texts, I've written commentaries which borrow words and inspiration from a multitude of sources; Bob Dylan, Lao Tzu, Doctor Who, the Tarot, T.S. Eliot, King Kong, John Lennon, Thomas Pynchon, Emily Dickinson, Joseph Campbell, the Grateful Dead and Martin Luther King all make cameo appearances. The language, unlike so many translations, makes every attempt to be gender-neutral where it isn't gender-specific.

I wanted the sparest interface possible. No fake parchment backgrounds, no gimmicky images of bamboo or cartoon sages with oracles and winning lottery numbers.

The software engine emulates precisely the ancient yarrow stalk method, which was slightly more likely to cast yang than yin. A changing yin line is very rare using stalks, but of equal probability to changing yang using coins.

I hope you enjoy using this I-Ching app as much as I enjoy crafting it, improving it, and hearing from people who have found it helpful in their lives. It's been in constant development since 1989, when it was released on Compuserve and via floppy disk.
