Gautam Buddha, also known as Siddhartha Gautam, Shakyamuni Buddha or simply the Buddha, after the title of Buddha, was an ascetic and sage on whose teachings Buddhism was founded. He is believed to have lived and taught mostly in the eastern part of Ancient India sometime between the sixth and fourth centuries.

महात्मा बुद्ध को श्री हरी विष्णु का ही एक अवतार माना जाता है। गौतम बुद्ध जी का जन्म बिहार राज्य की उत्तरी सीमा के निकट वर्तमान नेपाल में लुंबिनी नामक स्थान पर 563 ईसा पूर्व इक्ष्वाकु वंशीय क्षत्रिय शाक्य कुल के राजा शुद्धोधन के घर में हुआ था। बौद्ध धर्म की स्थापना करने वाले बुद्ध जी ने लोगो को अहिंसा और आपसी भाईचारे का सन्देश सुनाया। उनकी कही गई बातों को मानकर मनुष्य इस संसार रूपी दुनिया के सुखो को भोग कर आत्मिक शांति अर्थात ईश्वर की और ध्यान लगाने की सीख पाता है। इच्छाओं का कभी अंत नहीं होता। अगर आपकी एक इच्छा पूरी होती है, तो दूसरी इच्छा तुरंत जन्म ले लेती है। उनके जीवन में होने वाली हर एक घटना से हमें कुछ न कुछ सीख अवश्य मिलती है।
