I don't know if you know, but this type of abacus has bars curved upwards, to better keep beads to one or other side of the abacus. Consider adding following gesture: when accelerating the device flat UP (device is more or less flat and is accelerated up), beads move towards the SIDES, as if gravity is temporarily made higher, letting the beads slide more easily to the sides. Downward acceleration should do nothing; this is artificial, but will make the user easier to use the upward movement.
