لأن الحب لا يعرف زمان ولا مكان، بدأت هذه القصة في كندا، حيث كانت جمان تدرس في احدى جامعاتها بعد أن منحتها المملكة العربية السعودية منحة، فشاءت الأقدار أن يكون عبد العزيز هو الرجل الذي يأخذ قلبها، ويقلب حالها من فتاة قوية في غربتها، إلى عاشقة لا تصدق إلّا قلبها وإن كانت تدرك أنه مخطئ بعض الأحيان.

كتبت أثير النشمي هذه الرواية بحس أنثوي عالٍ، وبصدق وشفافية لا مثيل لها، لتلامس بكلماتها واقع تعيشه معظم الإناث في وطنٍ لا يشبه إلا مقبرة لأحلام كل فتاة، فكتبت على لسان جمان كل ما تعانيه الأنثى من ظلم المجتمع وخبث الرجال، فلم يكن عبد العزيز ذلك العاشق الذي تمنت، ولكنه كان ذلك الرجل الذي أحبت، فمنحته كل ما بوسعها أن تمنحه، أحلامها وأمانيها، ماضيها ومستقبلها، بل أنها كانت على استعداد لتوهب له حياته كلها.

لقد بادلها الحب لا ننكر هذا، ولكن بأنانية مفرطة، كان يجوز له كل شيء، ولا يجوز لها إلا أن تحبه، وأن تتصرف كما يريد، وكأي عاشقة أطاعت، ولكن ثقة الرجل الذي لا يثق بنفسه ولا يصون الحب تنهدم عند أول موقف، حتى وان كان يعلم بداخله بأن هذا الموقف كاذب وغير حقيقي، ولكنه يستغله ليشغل نار العذاب داخلها، ولينتقم من صدق حبها له لأنه لم يكن قادراً على الالتزام بحبه له، فيتسبب لها بالعديد من المشاكل، حتى أنها كادت تفقد بعثتها الدراسية دون أن يفقد قلبها شيء من حبه رغم كل شيء.
